The Health and Human Services Secretary Alex Azar said that the United States will preferably have the effective vaccines to immunize all the vulnerable COVID-19 patients by end of 2020.
The U.S. government said that it is “cautiously optimistic” regarding the one or two vaccines which are most likely to be produced by Pfizer Inc. or Moderna Inc. The officials also stated that these vaccines will be available by the end of 2020 and they will be distributed amongst the Americans.
Alex Azar also said that he is expecting all his seniors, the healthcare workers and the first responders to receive this vaccine as soon as the vaccine arrives in January. Along with this he mentioned that the rest of the Americans will be benefiting from the vaccine later, in March.
The companies joining in with the US government’s efforts in order to develop a COVID-19 vaccine, amidst the Operation Warp Speed, have begun the development of manufacturing capabilities even before the vaccination has been approved and authorised.
What is Operation Warp Speed?
Founded on 15th May 2020 by the US government’s administration, Operation Warp Speed (OWS) is a public-private partnership established for the administration, production, and distribution of COVID-19 vaccines and diagnosis.
Pfizer publicly announced via an open letter which stated that it is quite unlikely to have enough data to submit for a U.S. regulatory authorization until late November. As the cold weather pushes into America, the coronavirus outbreak is worsening day by day. There has been an increase in the number of cases in some 38 U.S. states and two territories. It has also been noted that more than 8 million Americans have been infected and about 200,000 people have succumbed to novel coronavirus.
