Montmartre is Paris’s aesthetic capital. With its long cobbled streets, Instagrammable cafes, and rich historical architecture, this Parisian village is a must-see location to add to your French travel bucket list.
Montmartre is located in Paris’ 18th arrondissement and sees more than 30 million tourists annually. Home to historic Sacré-Coeur, Instagram-famous La Maison Rose and some of the best birds-eye views of the city skyline, it’s no wonder that it has become a popular destination for those all-important Parisian social posts.
With this in mind, we’ve compiled seven of our favourite photo spots in Montmartre for a Paris-style shoot you’ll love from every angle.
La Maison Rose
First up on our instagrammable Montmartre walking tour in Paris is the main attraction, La Maison Rose. You simply can’t visit this Parisian village without stopping at the most iconic cafe in the city.
Features on hit shows like Emily In Paris La Maison Rose has become a hit Instagram spot for capital tourists. With a bright pink hue and a country-house vibe, it’s the perfect Instagram centrepiece that captures Montmartre’s elegant cobbles, antique furniture, and pastel features.
Sacré-Coeur
For architecture buffs, Sacré-Coeur is the place to be. The Sacré-Coeur Basilica is not only dedicated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus but is also an Ancient Roman work of art.
Built between 1875 and 1914, the building is located at the top of Montmartre Hill, which is actually the highest point in Paris and perfect for snapping a cityscape shot.
For the best snaps of the stunning architecture, angling your camera up from the bottom of the Basilica’s many steps will capture the famous dome and spires.
For a great shot of the Sacré-Coeur from afar, head into Place St Pierre Square, where you’ll find the cutest vintage carousel and a brilliant view of the architecture in all its glory. Positioning yourself in the middle of both of these, you’ll create a quirky shot for a unique Montmartre tribute!
Sinking House of Montmartre
Next up, we have the Sinking House of Montmartre. Often forgotten about as tourists crowd the Basilica, just to your right, you’ll find a brilliant photo opportunity.
While this red brick building isn’t actually sinking, the clever optical illusion created by the grassy hill in front of it gives the impression that the house is falling sideways. Simply tilt your camera, and you’ll have a humous shot to add to your collection.
Place du Tertre
As you head into the heart of Montmartre, you’ll find Place du Tertre, a cobblestone-lined meeting point for bohemian free spirits, classic artists and anyone looking for the most aesthetic shot of the city.
As you walk around the centre, you’ll see stunning landscape backdrops of sprawling vineyards and instagrammable vistas just waiting to be photographed.
Another great photo opportunity is capturing the artists in all their glory. Many paint landscapes as beautiful as the sights themselves, making for a great nuanced snap of an artist at work.
Metro Station Lamarck-Caulaincourt
Montmartre is also home to one of the few remaining vintage metro signs in the city. Beautifully framed by black metal balconies, traditional stone buildings, and the famous red and white striped cafe awning, it makes for a great picture opportunity.
Many budding photographers also capture themselves in this shot, wearing their best Parisian-style outfits and posing at the top of the first flight of stairs by the vintage lamppost for the best Instagram angle.
The I Love You Wall
If you’re visiting the city of love, why not snap a picture of the iconic I Love You Wall, which is also in Montmartre?
Created by mural painter Claire Kito and Calligraphist Frédéric Baron in 2000, there are more than 311 declarations of love in a whopping 250 languages.
Not only has this become the ideal meeting place for lovers across the globe, but many snap a shot next to the wall for the ideal couple’s Instagram post.
Le Consulat
Last but not least, we’re heading to another cafe known for its instagrammable decor. Le Consulat is one of the oldest brasseries Montmartre has to offer, and its vintage charm makes it worth the trip.
From cute Parisian shutters to vibrant red and green awnings, this Brasserie is not only perfect for an aesthetic snapshot of Montmartre but also incredibly renowned for its coffee after a long day of taking photos of the city.
Enjoy Snapping The Streets of Montmartre
While we may have compiled a list of seven stand-out photograph locations, the truth is all of Montmartre is extremely Instagramable.
Lined with stunning coble streets, independent shops, and artsy street corners, this aesthetic pocket at the top of the hill is where you could spend a day finding some of the best photos of the city.
