He is the founder of Gor Investment Limited, a dynamic holding company with subsidiaries spanning multiple industries. Renowned for his strategic financial acumen, Ovik Mkrtchyan consistently delivers impactful investments that foster sustainable economic development and social progress, integrating environmentally responsible practices with advanced technologies. His innovative approach supports projects across diverse sectors, including eco-friendly technology, energy efficiency, healthcare, and education. With extensive experience in building global partnerships, he drives innovation that creates meaningful and lasting benefits for local communities and international markets.
Born on 14 March 1967 in Nagorno-Karabakh, Ovik Mkrtchyan relocated with his family to Uzbekistan at a young age, where he later graduated from secondary school with honours. He pursued higher education at the Tashkent Automobile and Road Construction Institute and the Tashkent State University of Economics, where he specialised in dual fields of study. In 2007, he earned an additional degree in Finance and Credit, fortifying his multi-disciplinary foundation for a successful international career.
Mkrtchyan’s professional journey began in 1993 at BATA Commercial Bank with a Deputy Chairman role, where he gained valuable experience in financial management and business expansion. This role sparked his interest in driving growth and developing new business solutions, setting a strong foundation for his approach to strategic leadership. By the late 1990s, he transitioned into senior roles within the transport sector, where he continued to expand his expertise by streamlining operations and implementing innovative practices that enhanced efficiency and service quality. These formative years in banking and transport provided Mkrtchyan with a versatile skill set in organisational strategy.
In 1999, Mkrtchyan founded Gor Investment Limited, a diversified holding company now comprising subsidiaries active in numerous industries within Uzbekistan and internationally. Gor Investment has prioritised projects aimed at advancing green technology and sustainable business practices. Among its key ventures is SKB Energy LLC, founded in 2010, which promotes industrial energy efficiency and renewable energy solutions, collaborating with global organisations such as the United Nations and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development.
Other pioneering initiatives include Technano Innovation LLC, which supports advanced manufacturing in Uzbekistan by producing high-purity molybdenum trioxide nanopowder, in alignment with the country’s Innovation Development Strategy. Ecotech Group LLC, another Gor subsidiary, leads sustainable waste management through a unique patented process (UZ IAP 04528) that converts chemical waste into furnace fuel and non-toxic benzoic acid. This innovative approach not only addresses industrial waste disposal but also contributes to the restoration of natural environments for future generations.
“The truth is that if entrepreneurs do not start to show social responsibility today, terrifying scenarios of environmental disasters, perceived as events of the distant future, will become a reality. So we need to act now,” notes Ovik Mkrtchyan.
His initiatives have expanded into healthcare, resulting in over 30 patents recognised as inventions by international patent organisations. These patents include advancements in the production of medical equipment and innovative viral inactivation methods. “We’ve created a unique installation that utilises a photodynamic method for virus inactivation, using methylene blue as a photosensitiser activated by monochromatic light,” explains Ovik Mkrtchyan, New Medical Technologies (NMT) founder. “Our innovation is specifically designed for the inactivation of viruses on medical instruments. This inactivation method can be used more commonly as a means of preventing the spread of infections in places where medical procedures are routinely performed.”
Mkrtchyan is also committed to nurturing future talent. In 2023, he played a key role in establishing the Centre for Youth Initiatives, an educational hub equipped with 12 specialised laboratories to provide hands-on training in engineering and technology. This centre places a strong emphasis on encouraging young women to enter technical fields, blending advanced educational methods with international best practices.
Ovik Mkrtchyan is a family man and father of four. Outside of work, he dedicates his time to sports and intellectual pursuits, embodying a well-rounded approach to personal and professional life.
