Gambling is a pastime that has been around for centuries. It’s something that millions worldwide enjoy regularly, with many taking part daily. However, over the years, you could say there have been instances where the spotlight on the industry has been shone in a negative light, and Jette Nygaard-Andersen believes it’s led to an unfair reputation being developed.
You could suggest that Andersen knows a thing two about the gambling industry, as she is currently the CEO of Entail. They have brands such as PartyCasino under their respected banner. But, as one of the top people within the sector, she has a better vantage point than many and believes that the general public should trust gambling operators.
Andersen, 53, who hails from Denmark, believes that the current view of many could lead to policymakers bringing in rules and regulations that are too strict and restrictive. Something she believes would ultimately backfire as it would lead to punters then moving on to using operators from the black market who aren’t licensed or regulated.
The Entain CEO is now urging ministers who are in a position of influence to attempt to strike the right balance when the new rules are issued in a White Paper in the coming months. At the time of writing, it’s believed the main points of discussion ahead of the introduction of new rules include affordability checks for those gambling online and reducing minimum wagers further.
The Betting and Gaming Council in 2021 released data that suggests that the number of punters regularly using unlicensed betting sites has risen to 460,000 from 210,000, a number recorded in 2019. And this information strengthens Nygaard-Andersen’s claims that a further tightening of the rules will lead to more following suit.
In recent times, the rules surrounding gambling, primarily for the online sector, have become more of a challenge for operators, which means that bettors are affected by default in many respects. Of course, the moves made by ministers are designed to protect gamblers, but the increase in the number of those using unlicensed platforms show they could be alienating many in the process who are now prepared to take risks to keep on betting and gaming.
As you will expect, Nygaard-Andersen suggests that the industry’s reputation as a whole is “somewhat unfair.” But, she adds, “It is utterly important for me that our customers understand we have their safety at heart and that they see us as a trusted entertainment provider.”
Leading Entain brand PartyCasino are committed to safer gambling and provide tools such as spending controls, time management, account time outs, self-exclusion, budget calculators and more in their efforts to keep their members safe.
They also work with leading organisations such as GamStop, Gambling Therapy, Take Time To Think and the National Gambling Helpline. And so do most other licensed and regulated operators in the online casino and sports betting arena.
