Intel announced that it planned to acquire the Smart Edge platform from Pivot Technology Inc., a cloud-native, scalable, and secure platform for multi-access edge computing. With Smart Edge, enterprises and telecom service providers can enable cloud services closer to the user on customer centric. The expansion of computing in network is growth opportunity for Intel.
Potential benefits of acquisition
Smart Edge computing allows data collected by Internet of Things devices gathered nearby to collection point to process and analyse, rather than sent to far away data centres. This gives facility to process critical data in real time environment. Edge computing is expected to reach $22.55 in 2024 with the grow of the artificial Intelligence. The Smart Edge acquisition positions Intel to be a leading player in the market as it rises. Potential benefits include new opportunities and revenue stream while reducing total cost of ownership for intelligent edge system.
Pivot Company provides technology services, ranging from the initial needs assessment and design, through procurement and implementation. The Pivot Integration Centre enables large-scale rollouts of desktops, mobile devices and other equipment, plus handles current fulfilment of end user equipment requests. Interconnect is the Pivot self-service procurement portal.
Smart Edge Computing fortify Intel’s footprint in 5G network
The Smart Edge computing software platform is developed to run on Intel’s chip, which the company targeting to sell into equipment for 5G, the next generation of wireless data network. For example, retailers and service providers could get operational efficiencies as new personalise and location aware factories with combined data analysis and artificial Intelligence.
“We plan to take full advantage of our combined technologies and teams to accelerate the development of the edge computing market while creating a compelling solution for customers. This transaction enhances our ability to address the 5G network transformation with a leading position in edge computing,” said Dan Rodriguez, Intel vice-president in the datacentre group and general manager of the network computer division.
Also, Intel and Pivot will sign a desired partner agreement, making Pivot as official smart Edge seller as well as Intel’s non-exclusive preferred system integrator for system based on Smart Edge platform.
